Kenya Re appoints Hillary Maina as new MD

NAIROBI, Kenya, March 30 – The Kenya Reinsurance Corporation has announced the appointment of Hillary Maina Wachinga as Managing Director.

Wachinga takes over from Jadiah Mwarania, who left the corporation in December 2022 on terminal leave, after serving at the helm since April 11, 2011.

Prior to this appointment, Wachinga was serving as the Risk and compliance manager at Kenya Re-Insurance.

He is skilled in various business fields, having served as a risk manager for a period of more than seventeen years.

“His work experience as a Risk and compliance operator at Kenya Reinsurance group has exposed him to a deep understanding of different cultures, business and regulatory environments in Kenya, East Africa and Asia,” Kenya Re said in a statement.

Wachinga holds a doctorate degree in business administration and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science both from the University of Nairobi.

He is also an authenticated public accountant of Kenya (CPAK), certified information systems manager (CISM), certified in risk information and control (CRISC), certified information systems auditor (CISA), certified enterprise risk manager (CERM), and certified compliance analyst (CCA).

Furthermore, Wachinga has certificates in insurance proficiency from the College of Insurance, project management from Strathmore university, and corporate governance certificate from the Centre of Corporate Governance.

He is a current part-time lecturer at Strathmore Business School, an avid golfer and a poet.
