Kenya Receives Ksh5Bn From World Bank to Combat Covid19 –

The World Bank has approved Ksh5 billion immediate funding to support Kenya’s response to COVID19 pandemic. The project dubbed Kenya COVID-19 Emergency Response Project will provide emergency funding for medical diagnostic services, surveillance and response, capacity building, quarantine, isolation and treatment centers, medical waste disposal, risk communications and community engagement.

Kenya has so far recorded 110 cases with the government announcing tougher measures to curb spread of the pandemic. The measures include; limited movement of people from Nairobi to upcountry, Matatu drivers and conductors to wear masks, and hiring of additional health workers within seven days.

Further, a statement on World Bank’s Twitter page says the project will be impelemented in all 47 counties targeting infected persons, at-risk populations, medical and emergency personnel, medical and testing facilities.

“$10 million (Ksh1Bn) will go towards strengthening the capacity of the Kenya National Transfusion Service to provide safe blood and blood products”, said the statement. World Bank will release an additional Ksh1 billion to fund the National COVID19 contigency plan.
