Kenya records highest Covid-19 cases at 47 as two more die

Kenya has Wednesday recorded the highest number of positive Covid-19 cases at 47 so far over a period of 24 hours.

This now brings the number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 582.

In a press briefing at Afya House, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said two more patients had succumbed to the disease raising the total number of fatalities to 26. The two patients passed away at their homes in Mombasa.

Out the 47 new cases, 32 are from Mombasa, 11 from Nairobi, two from Busia and one each in Kiambu and Kwale.

In Mombasa, the cases are spread as follows, 25 Mvita, 2 Changamwe, 3 Likoni and Kisauni 2 cases.

The cases in Nairobi are from Eastleigh 5, Kasarani 2, Kibra 1, Umoja 1, Dandora 1 and Karen 1 case.

In terms of gender, thirty-one are males while sixteen are females.

Majority of the cases in Mombasa and Nairobi were recorded in Old Town and Eastleigh areas.

Eight more patients have been discharged bringing the total number of recoveries so far to 190.

Due to the increased number of cases in Eastleigh and Old Town Mombasa, the Ministry of Health and that of Interior and Coordination of National Government have directed that the areas be shut down.

In the two areas, there will be a cessation of movement in and out with effect from today (Wednesday) from 7 PM for the next 15 days.

There will also be the closure of markets, restaurants and eateries within those areas with effect from today for 15 days.
