Kenya: Ruto Tours Kakamega, Uasin Gishu Counties to Commission Projects

Nairobi — President William Ruto was set to tour Kakamega and Uasin Gishu Counties on Saturday to launch and inspect the construction of major government projects that stalled in the previous regime.

According to State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, the President waas slated to launch the upgrading to bitumen standard of the 13km Malava-Kimang’et-Ikoli Road in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County.

Later on Saturday, the President was set to inspect the 61.35km Rivatex-Simat-Lemook-Kipkaren Selia-Kapkatembo-Kipkaren, Kaplemut-Kabiet and St Theresa- Centre Kwanza roads, in Uasin Gishu County.

“President William Ruto will today launch the upgrading to bitumen standard of the 13km Malava – Kimang’eti – Ikoli Road in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County,” State House Press Office said.

His inspection tour comes a day after Ruto launched two major road projects that had stalled under the previous regime.

A sum of Sh6.7 billion will be required to finish the multi-billion dollar road projects in the counties of Kajiado and Bomet.

The project in Kajiado involves updating the bitumen standard and doing performance-based routine maintenance on the Ongata Rongai, Gataka, Embul-bul, Cooperative College, Matasia, Nkoroi, Ongata Rongai Nazarene University, Rimpa & JN (C 58), Lewisa Academy, and Kahara Market roads.

In Bomet, the project will include upgrading to Bitumen Standard and Maintenance of Silibwet – Merigi – Kaparuso – Tegat – Cheaper – Kimuchul – Matcher, Longisa – Kembu – Chemaner, Mulot – Kapkimolwa – Kembu – Kaparuso, Matecha-Mugoiywet Roads.

President Ruto vowed to push forward with the projects that had stopped under the previous administration and declared he would not allow himself to be sidetracked from his development program.

“We are looking forward to working together. The election is over. We shall not be blackmailed. We shall not be cowed,” he said.
