Kenya seeks to join UN Security Council as a permanent member

Kenya has begun campaigns to join the United Nations Security Council as a permanent member ahead of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly slated to begin on September 25th in New York USA.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Monica Juma said the Country has already written to member states asking for their support to give the Country an opportunity to play a key role in the council.

Juma  who met the newly appointed Kenyan ambassadors to serve in different Countries said  they have already began lobbying member states  to support the bid.

According to the Cabinet Secretary, Kenya’s influence in the region has seen tremendous economic growth and a significant  reduction in cases of insecurity especially in Somalia and South Sudan  which experience perennial conflict.

Meanwhile the government  is stepping up efforts to nurture the blue economy with Ambassador Juma calling on the international community  to ensure  it is protected following illegal dumping of toxic substances in high seas.

Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary Ababu Namwamba noted the significant strides made by the country in fostering peace in the region.
