Kenya’s new KSh350 million cruise ship terminal is set to be unveiled in early 2020, even as construction works are currently 95% complete.

The new terminal encompasses duty -free shops, restaurants, conference facilities and offices for key stakeholders in the industry. It also has modern high-roofed structures whose primary source of energy is solar, and a bio digester that will recycle water for re-use.

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) partnered with Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA) in the terminal construction. KPA contributed KSh250 million while TMEA contributed KSh100 million.

Upon completion, the terminal will create close to 300 direct jobs, thus boosting local industries such as the transport sector, hotels, food providers and curio sellers.

The Port of Mombasa has already received MS Albatros, the first cruise vessel for the season carrying 446 passengers and 346 crew members. It was sailing from Zanzibar and docked at the new cruise terminal.
