Kenya and Uganda have agreed to streamline operations in Lake Victoria to bring order in the waters.

This follows a truce meeting between officials drawn from four Kenyan Counties bordering the lake and four districts from Uganda.

Following continued complaints by Kenyan fishermen, a Kenyan delegation met in a bid to bring a lasting truce over the disputes surrounding lucrative fish stock territories in Lake Victoria.

Kenyan delegation was led by Migori Governor Okoth Obado and Migori County Commissioner Joseph Rotich.

The Ugandans were led by Major Martha Asiimiwe the Monitoring and Supervision Officer in President Yoweri Museveni’s office and Sylvester Opira.

Governor Obado said the meeting aims to address complains received from Kenyan fishermen in the lake which includes cases of illegal taxes and imprisonment of Kenyans by Ugandan force among others.

Asiimiwe, on the other hand, said the meetings were part of other high levels of intervention to find a solution to disputed Migingo Island.

In the meeting officials from the beach management units said they have jointly bargained for pricing with the level of cooperation increasing from 70 per cent to 90 per cent.
