The kenyan hip hop industry scored big with the recent premier of the first ever hip hop movie ‘Mzuka’ on Mnet’s,Maisha Magic.
The movie showcases the life of two promising rappers eager to have their big break.
According to seasoned actor and rapper Barret Athor Jr popularly known as Jublak who plays as Keys,a music producer in Mzuka maintained that the movie delves on the tumultuous road to a creatives breakthrough which is riddled with uncertainty and ‘intellectual robbery’ as one camp robs the other in favor of their preferred rapper
This is a common trend that’s evident and an eyesore in the creative industry as far as loosing content is concerned.The sofa set dreams rapper went ahead and rated ‘Mzuka’ highly as worth watching.
“So Barret ‘Jublak’ Atho Jr plays the music producer (KEYS) who rips off another budding rapper’s music ‘OB MISTARI’ played by Sobukwe Nonkwe and gives the lyrics and instrumental to ‘Goat Matata’ played by Antony Ashioya, his artist… this movie is simply amazing” Explained Jublak
Jublak’s sentiments were echoed by another hip hop star,G Hunter also known as Mundu Wa Musyi who made part of the cast adding that it’s the beginning of more blessings to the hip hop fraternity.
“Hii ni first hip hop movie inaangazia struggle ya msanii maisha ya kila siku kuna rap battles msanii alifika stage kuonyesha kipaji kuna pia ile base msanii hukuja kutulia chwom ya kadi kupatana na mbogi so hii movie inaonyesha mwanzo wa mazuri kwa game ya hip hop” He stated.
Mundu Wa Musyi who’s currently enjoying the success of his newest release Ndio Mimi 3 an all kikamba boom rap, further revealed the existence of Nafsi Huru another hip hop head who acts as a ‘ hip hop plug ‘ in Mzuka as well as providing the movie’s soundtrack.
The movie is written by Isaboke Nyakundi with Sobukwe Nonkwe as the lead star.
Jublak, Mundu Wa Musyi and Nafsi’ Huru are some of the few notable names in the kenyan hip hop scene who prominently feature in ‘Mzuka’
Mzuka is definitely another reason to enjoy watching the screens as Kenyan hip hop earns time in the living rooms.
