Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei is the new world record holder for the fastest ran half-marathon by a female athlete.
Ms. Kosgei set a new world record when she won the Great North Run in Tyneside, the United Kingdom on Sunday in a time of one hour, four minutes and 28 seconds.
She ran 23 seconds quicker to smash the previous world record set in 2017 by her compatriot Joyciline Jepkosgei.
The 2019 London Marathon champion led a Kenyan sweep of the top four places, with Magdalyne Masai emerging second (1:07:36) and Linet Masai third (1:07:44).
Britain’s Mo Farah won the men’s elite race for a record sixth successive year in 59 minutes 7 seconds ahead of Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola (59:13), while Abdi Nageeye of Netherlands claimed bronze in 59:55.
