A section of Kibera residents spent the night in the cold keenly monitoring the presidential results from media houses.
The residents followed the results on TV screens put up at the Kamukunji Grounds in Kibra by Victoria peace band.
Those who spoke to Ghetto Radio expressed optimism that their preferred candidate Azimio Leader Raila Odinga will win.
“I’m Samson Otieno Chairman of Bunge la wananchi here at Kamkunji Kibera. And we have already begun to celebrate the victory of Raila Amollo Odinga that we have been waiting for since time immemorial,” said Otieno’
When asked what makes him feel that their candidate of choice will win he said, “People in this constituency have fully participated in the voting process and according to our culture we always keep our votes in one basket we people of kibera.”
He further stated, “In 2007, 2013, 2017 we were voting peacefully but the results were not what we expected. This time round history will not repeat itself. During those dark times GSU could have overtaken this place by now but today our brothers and sisters in Uniform are not around.”
He stated that they ar going to continue keeping vigil until the time IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati will announce the results.
“We are going to do this until the time Wafula Chebukati will announce the results. We will also set up a cafeteria here so that when one feels hungry he goes to eat. Fire to keep us warm and sound system for entertainment have also been set,” he said.
Kibera constituency, has over 100,00 voters. It has traditionally overwhelmingly voted for Raila.
