Tuskys Supermarket has presented two new cars to the top two winners of the 16th annual Wareng Cross Country that was held last year in Eldoret.
The annual event which was hosted at the Huruma grounds in November 2018 is part of the retailer’s community initiative aimed at nurturing young sporting talent.
This awarding follows an approval of the winners; Rhonex Kipruto and Agness Tirop, winners of the Senior Men and Women race categories respectively by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK).
Tuskys Wareng Cross Country attracted over 2000 participants in various categories ranging from children, Junior and Senior categories.

In the most competitive races, the Senior men and women 10km, World 10,000m Bronze medalist Tirop bagged the women’s race in 33:10:5 and was closely followed by Norah Jeruto and Sandrafelis Chebet and in second and third place respectively.
In the men category, World 10, 000m under-20 champion Kipruto won the race in 29:38:1 after finishing ahead of Davies Kimeli and Shadrack Kimutai who completed in second and third places respectively.
Speaking at the handover, Tuskys supermarket CEO Dan Githua re-affirmed the company’s commitment and dedication towards bettering the lives of the communities around which they operate in.
“We are excited to be handing over the vehicles to the winners with support from Athletic Kenya and ADAK. We applaud Kipruto and Tirop who were outstanding in the Senior Men and Women race categories respectively.”
Tuskys Wareng Cross Country was started in 2005 as a road race, and has over time become an annual cross country event that is aimed at nurturing young sporting talent.
Tuskys Community initiative awards Ngelet Tarit dispensary in Uasin Gishu County with 5 beds as part of the fulfillment of their promise last year.
As the car winners were receiving their prizes, Board members of Ngelel Tarit Health Centre received five beds with complete beddings from Tuskys Supermarket as a continuation of the ‘Tuskys in the Community’ initiative. This follows their donation of 10 maternity beds to go towards the facilitation of the opening of a maternity wing in the Health Centre last year.
“We made a commitment to support the community of Ngelet Taritto help them set up the maternity wing at the dispensary, and we are proud to be back here to fulfill our commitment. As Tuskys, we pride ourselves in ensuring that we operate responsibly by supporting the communities around which we operate”, added Mr Githua.
At the time of the first donation, the chairman of Ngelel Tarit Health Centre, MrDavid Langat applauded Tuskys for the initiative and noted that the gesture will go a long way in providing quality healthcare to expectant mothers.
“The gesture by Tuskys Supermarkets to provide 10 maternity beds will go a long way in helping us actualize our plan of setting up a maternity wing in this health centre.”
Tuskys CEO noted that the company made a commitment at the beginning of 2018 to invest in the ‘Tuskys in the Community’ programme and ensure that the retailer has a positive impact on the community.
“So far we have managed to give back in the areas of education and now health, and we are looking forward to bringing more impact, as this is the backbone on which our organization was founded”, said Mr Githua.
Tuskys in the community is an initiative that was designed to celebrate the legacy of the Late Founder, Mzee Joram Kamau who always entrenched the values of being charity and kindness to the Tuskys staff.
