Kirinyaga Governor distributes 100 water tanks to boost hand washing – KBC

Kirinyaga County Government has set up a 14 bed isolation ward at Kerugoya referral hospital as a precautionary measure against Coronavirus.

Kirinyaga Governor Ann Mumbi Kamotho says, “Even though no corona virus case has been reported in Kirinyaga County, we cannot confidently say that we do not have any case. Anyone could be carrying the virus and walking in our midst. That is why the laid down prevention guidelines have to be followed to the letter.”

Through the Kirinyaga County Covid-19 Taskforce, the County has also acquired some medical equipment, protective gear for the County medical team, masks and sanitizers for use in our health facilities.

The County has also trained its medical practitioners among them doctors, nurses, lab technologists and other health workers on corona prevention and handling protocols such as screening, referral and treatment.

The Governor says the County has also identified six boarding schools that can be used as isolation centers in the event that corona suspected cases rise beyond the capacity of the hospitals.

The schools are Karoti Girls Secondary School in Mwea East, Kagio Boys Secondary School in Mwea West, Mwea Boys Secondary School in Mwea West, Kerugoya Boys Secondary School in Kirinyaga Central, Kianyaga Boys Secondary School in Kirinyaga East and Baricho Boys Secondary School in Kirinyaga West.

She was speaking during the distributing of 100 water tanks to boost the hand washing initiative across the County.

The county has also instituted a major clean up and fumigation exercise in markets, health facilities, bus stations and public sanitation blocks and a team from the County is on the ground to ensure the prevention guidelines are adhered to.

The Governor said two weeks ago they received two patients who exhibited corona virus-like symptoms but they tested negative and were released to go home.
