The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) has issued a seven-day strike notice to six counties over delayed and unpaid arrears.
The union says health workers have not been paid for two months in the counties of Meru, Kisii, Garissa, Muranga, Taita Taveta, and Embu and want action taken failure to which they will paralyze operations in the health sector.
The union said delays in paying health workers are an injustice that should and that the actions by these counties risk the general well-being of Kenyans.
KMPDU has also raised concern over 7,000 doctors who have not been hired for more than five years with county governments only hiring 10 percent of those who graduate.
The doctors now want any stimulus packages requested by governors to be directed towards increasing the availability of drugs in hospitals, improving health institutions as well as the workforce in those institutions reinforced.
