KU VC raises concern on public universities financial situation

Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor Paul Wainaina has raised concern over financial challenges facing Public universities in the Country.

Speaking during the university’s 45^th graduation ceremony, Wainaina said reduced capitation and dwindling student numbers coupled with unprotected labor action could compromise education standards in public universities.

He was speaking during the university’s 45th graduation ceremony where more than 6,400 graduands were awarded various degrees, diplomas and certificates.

Wainaina said the situation, has left the institutions in enormous economic challenges.  In order to stay afloat, the university management has rationalized its operations in all the campuses in a bid to cut down costs.

During the graduation, Central Bank Governor Patrick Njoroge was conferred with an honorary degree of humane letters in recognition of his contribution to the banking sector.
