Laikipia County government will assist traders who were removed from the roadside by Road Authorities with alternative space to conduct their businesses.

This is after hundreds of the traders were given notice to vacate from the reserves of the Nairobi Nanyuki Isiolo highway which is being expanded.

Deputy Governor John Mwaniki who visited Nanyuki’s Ukumbusho Market noted that they will work the leaders in such cases to make sure that no one will be left out in the program.

Mwaniki said that the newly constructed Old Market will host businessmen from the road reserves and more who will not have space left in other areas.

He called on genuine traders at the Ukumbusho market to register themselves with their chairman in order for the county to plan on how to improve sanitation and market arrangement in the area that has previously been a den for drug peddlers.

The deputy governor also visited the ongoing rehabilitation of Nanyuki’s central Park and called on building owners in the town to consider painting them to conform to the ongoing project of Smart towns.

He noted that most roads have been constructed afresh and the town looks more orderly hence the need for businessmen to work with the government in realizing this dream.
