Following the resurgence of Shisha consumption in Nairobi Clubs and restaurants, anti-Tobacco crusaders have slammed the government for taking lightly the enforcement of Tobacco Act of 2007.
Shisha consumption is on the rise in clubs and restaurants despite several warnings issued against the vice by Nairobi County Tobacco Control Unit.
The civil society groups are now demanding action against all clubs perpetrating selling and consumption of Shisha.
“We have a big problem with enforcement ..both the Nairobi county and other agencies like NACADA must just step and deal with this menace. We can’t kill a generation because of Shisha…we need a strong team to deal with these clubs and other Shisha dens,” Thomas Lindi from KETCA organisation said.
Lindi on the other hand asked the government to curb the emerging trends of Tobacco products advertisement.
“If you go to a Petrol Station you will find out there is a particular arrangement displaying nicotine products. That alone is an advertisment which goes against the Tobacco Control Act 2007,” he added.
