Kenyan football legend Joe Kadenge was hailed as a hero as the country’s political class led glowing tributes at his requiem mass in Nairobi on Wednesday.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga eulogized Kadenge as an icon as he affirmed his declaration to have City Stadium renamed after him and a statue erected in his honour.
“City stadium means a lot for the late Joe, and it will be a nice thing to name it after one of our great sportsman, we can as well call him a hero,” Odinga said.
Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula vowed to push through the Heroes Bill to ensure sporting legends get just rewards for their contributions to the nation.

“Most of our sports legends have not been appreciated, and I will be on the lead in pushing the bill to be a success,” Wetangula said.
Mudavadi has promised that the Government will buy Kadenge’s family a house in appreciation of the fallen legend.
Kenyan football greats including Mohamood ‘Kenya One’ Abbas, JJ Masiga and veteran coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee were also in attendance at a packed Friends international Centre.
Kadenge will be laid to rest at his home in Gisambai, Vihiga County on Saturday.
