NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 14 – Stephen Lemaiyan and Evangeline Makena walked home all smiles after winning the senior men and women’s 10km race at the Nairobi Cross Country Championships at the Nairobi West Prison grounds on Saturday.
Lemaiyan timed 29:19.3 in first place, ahead of Aaron Kipkoech (30:02.6) and Brian Kiprop (30:10.3) in second and third place respectively.
Makena, a sprints specialist, clocked 35:21.3 to finish first as Lydia Nyasigeta and Catherina Njihia came second and third in 35:35.9 and 35:49.7 respectively.
In the under-20 men’s 8km race, Paul Sunte timed 24:06.3 to beat the tape, ahead of Franklin Saitoti (24:20.9) and Chris Wanyoike (24:23.2) in second and third respectively.
Caroline Wanjiku clocked 19:47.7 to win the under-20 women’s 6km race as Jane Wangare (20:41.3) and Ruth Mwihaki (20:49.5) finished in the next two positions.
