The Serbian has been unveiled as the head coach of South African side Free State Stars on a two and a half year deal.

Nikola Kavazovic has officially dumped AFC Leopards after only three weeks in charge.

This after as it was highly expected, the Serbian was unveiled as the coach of South African side Free State Stars on Thursday on a two and a half year deal.

“We really took our time in searching for the new coach, we made sure we choose the right man for the job,” said Free State Stars General Manager Rantsi Mokoena.

VAST EXPERIENCE

“The coach brings vast experience to our league, having coached Botswana’s ESE  and recently for the first time in their history, Rollers qualified for the Champions League,” he added.

Kavazovic was unveiled at Leopards on November 2. He came in with a rich history of having won the league title in Botswana with Township Rollers.

He also helped the club qualify for the group stage of the prestigious Caf Africa Champions League for the first time in its history.

He would however walk out on the club on December 1, only explaining that he was heading back to his native Serbia to ‘attend to a sick relative’.

FINAL DECISION

Soon thereafter, he was involved in an ugly spat with a senior club official via Twitter forcing him to deactivate his social media account.

All along, as these events unfolded, Leopards continuously gave the impression that they were working round the clock to ensure the coach returns to the country to resume his duties.

Last weekend, a source at the club even told Nairobi News that the coach had been given until Tuesday to make a final decision on his future with the club.

Now he’s gone!
