A multi-million shilling five-star hotel-cum-long stay facility will be put up between the Canadian High Commission and Rwandan Embassy on Limuru Road.

The facility, which will sit on 2.7 acres, has since invited global hotel brands JW Marriot Hotel, Accor Hotels and Intercontinental Hotel Group to place bids for managing the seven-storeyed hotel that will accommodate two outfits.

The first unit will cater for extended-stay guests, mainly expatriates working at international agencies in Gigiri.

The affluent neighbourhood also hosts the US, Moroccan, Italian, Swedish, Turkish, Brazilian and Danish embassies as well as the Unep global headquarters.

Regulatory filings show that the long-stay hotel or furnished apartments will comprise of kitchenettes as well as bedrooms where guests will stay for between one and six months. The property, owned by Mediview Ltd, will have three blocks on the plot that will boast a restaurant and bar, meeting rooms and a business centre, swimming pools, gym, linen and furniture stores, a canteen, parking bays, a security and control office. The building will utilise solar energy for lighting and water heating as well as harness rainwater for irrigation and toilet use.

The Canadian embassy has given its views on the planned hotel.

More meetings are planned in the area ahead of the project’s commencement.

The National Environmental Management Authority has given Kenyans and other interested parties 30 days to give views on the hotel before it makes a decision of whether to approve it or not.

The development will have about 200 units.
