Liverpool stretched their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 20 games so far this campaign following their 2-0 win over visiting Sheffield United at Anfield.

A goal each from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane ensured the Reds kicked off the new year on a winning note as they gradually draw nearer to winning their first EPL title in over three decades.

It took the Egyptian forward just four minutes to open scoring for the hosts after tapping into the net a simple cross from Andy Robertson from the left flank.

Virgil van Dijk sent a long ball from his side of the pitch to Robertson who then outran Sheffield’s defender before threading the pass to Salah.

Barely 60 seconds after, John Lundstram, tried getting the visitors back on track but his efforts went off-target.

The first half saw both teams create beautiful chances but their failure to find the back of the net ensured the hosts took the one-goal advantage to the dressing room.

Mane’s goal came in the 64th minute after combining well with Mo Salah to score his side’s second goal.

The Senegalese forward made a solo run towards the edge of Sheffield’s 18-yard box and found the Egyptian, who immediately sent the ball into space.

His goal was almost going out after Dean Henderson tried saving the effort but the forward refused to give up until the ball cross the goal line.

The victory, however, means that have reopened their 13 points gap over Leicester City with one match at hand, while Manchester City trail the Reds by 14 points.

They welcome Carlo Ancelotti to Anfield for their FA Cup third-round clash this weekend after which they face-off with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
