Azimio leader Raila Odinga says protests will be held across the country every Monday as he bids to put pressure on President William Ruto’s government to address the cost of living among other concerns.

Speaking in Eastleigh, a Nairobi suburb, on March 20, 2023, Mr Odinga assured his supporters he will not relent until his demands to are met.

The seasoned politicians has also asked President Ruto to open the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) servers in a bid to establish who won the August 2022 polls.

He has also asked President Ruto to halt the ongoing recruitment of IEBC commissioners.

Said Odinga: “We will be demonstrating every Monday and the ways things are, you are yet to witness anything.”

Earlier, Mr Odinga his entourage, and thousands of supporters braved a cloud of teargas after making their way from Serena hotel to Kamkunji then Eastleigh suburbs in Nairobi.

This led to a confrontation between some of his supporters and the Police.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka condemned the arrest of Azimio lawmakers by the police earlier in the day.

“Kenyans will not entertain dictatorship. We want all the leaders who have been arrested and taken to Kiambu released unconditionally. This country is for all of us and not specific people and individuals,” said Musyoka.

Separately, Mr Odinga defended the day-long protests, saying President Ruto had ignored the plight faced by Kenyans.

Mr Odinga on his socials, described Monday, March 20, 2023 as the day of truth and justice.

“It is of utmost importance that we rein in the runway high cost of living for the benefit of ordinary citizens of our nation. This issue motivates us and keeps us going,” he wrote on Twitter.
