Transport and Roads Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has unleashed a purge at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) targeting the board members.
Through a special gazette notice issued today, the CS appointed five new among them; board members Musa Osman, Emmanuel Kibet, Consolata Lusweti, Lucas Maitha and Caroline Njoki Maina.
He forced out Lydia Yator, Stephen Gichuhi Gichohi, Conrad Thorpe, Farida Abdalla Sud and Nilfat Kassim Ali through a Gazette notice dated January 20, 2023.
The CS revoked the appointment of Gen (Rtd) Joseph Kibwana as the chair of KPA board and him with the former Kinango Member of Parliament Benjamin Tayari.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 (f) of the Kenya Ports Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport appoints—Musa Osman, Emmanuel Kibet, Consolata Lusweti, Lucas Maitha and Caroline Njoki Maina to be members of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Ports Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 23rd January, 2023,” read part of the statement.
Separately, his Health counterpart Susan Wafula Nakhumicha has revoked the appointments of Paul Magutu Njaria, Dorcas Wanjiru Ngechu, John Munguti Kisengi, Miriam Wairimu Ndirangu, Stephens Ogutu Oyaya and Diana Marion as members of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) effective January 20, 2023 in the same Gazette notice.
President William Ruto appointed Charles Githinji as the chairperson of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) for the next three years annulling appointment of James Mandere Rogers Atebe.
“I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces appoint Charles Githinji (DR.) to be the Chairperson of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board. The appointment of James Mandere Rogers Atebe (Dr.) is revoked,” the notice read.
The Pharmacy and Poisons Board is the drug regulatory authority established under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act, Chapter 244 of the Laws of Kenya.
The President has also appointed Abdi Barre Duale, brother to Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale as chairman of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) board and revoked appointment of retired Brigadier David Ngaira.
Sophy Nekoye Waliaula was also named as the non-executive chairperson of the Youth Advisory Board.
Phillip Mong’ony has been tasked to Chair the State Corporations Advisory Committee wghereas Fatma Bakari Barayan has been appointed as a Non-Executive Chair of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDFB) Board.
In an effort to address the issue of female genital mutilation in Kenya, President Ruto has also appointed Surum Ipato Korema as the chair of the Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Board.
The six-year appointment, which will start on January 20, 2023, revokes Agnes Mantaine Pareiyo’s appointment.
According to the gazette announcement, Phillip Mong’ony will also lead the State Corporations Advisory Committee for a term of three years.
