Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa was arrested following Tuesday night chaos that led to the fatal shooting of one person.
The incident happened after rival Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party supporters clashed in Ganda Ward, Malindi on Tuesday night.
The confrontation allegedly began after Jumwa stormed a party agents’ meeting that was taking place at the home of Reuben Katana, who is the ODM candidate for the upcoming Ganda Ward by-election.
The agents were reportedly meeting to plan how the party would handle the by-election slated for October 17th.
Jumwa questioned why such a meeting was taking place at night after the campaign period expired but ODM officials insisted that the meeting was for agents’ training.
An unknown number of people sustained injuries during the scuffle and Jumwa was arrested hours later at her home in Kakuyuni, Malindi at about 3 am.
Philip Wambugu, the Malindi sub-county Police Commander said investigations into the incident are underway.
