A 27-year-old woman who went missing more than a month ago has been found dead.
Daisy Chelang’at’s body was found buried in the nearby Barget forest after she went missing from her home in Muchorwi village, Kuresoi North.
Chelang’at’s boyfriend Geoffrey Kipkirui whom she had been living with for the last two years confessed to the killing and led police to the place she was buried.
“We managed to arrest the suspect, Geoffrey Kipkirui. After interrogating him, he confessed he had indeed killed Chelang’at,” said Molo Sub-county Police Commander Isaac Odumbe.
According to Chelangat’s brother Eric Rotich, the family got concerned when they did not hear from her for two weeks.
“My sister and Kipkirui were not officially married. They have been living together on an on and off basis for the last two years,” said Mr Rotich.
“In July, two weeks passed without hearing from Chelang’at and we felt that she could be in danger.”
Rotich said Kipkirui at first feigned ignorance of Chelang’at’s whereabouts and demanded to be told where she was.
Became unfaithful
The family started a search for her in various hospitals. “For nearly a month, we have been looking for her in hospitals thinking that is where she was. Then we heard neighbours say that she had fought with Kipkirui before she disappeared. That is when we suspected him of being behind her disappearance,” Rotich said.
At the scene where the body was found, Kipkirui said he killed her after suspecting she was unfaithful to him.
“Recently she became unfaithful. On the fateful day, she came back home after spending the night out. We had a confrontation and I slapped her and she collapsed,” said Kipkurui.
He said that after she failed to rise, he panicked.
“I was terrified and carried the body to the forest where I dug a grave and buried it,” Kipkirui said.
