Mathare United Football Club will host Posta Rangers at the Machakos County stadium in the only Kenyan Premier League game on the card this afternoon.

Mathare United, who sit 4th on the table with 31 points from 18 matches, will move above third-placed Bandari should they secure three points from the encounter.

It will however not be an easy task for the slum boys with their opponents Posta Rangers in danger of relegation at the end of the season.

Rangers sit 16th on the log on 16 points from 18 matches, and will also be looking for three points to increase their chances of survival at the end of the season.

Rangers are tied on 16 points with 17th placed Zoo Kericho and both sides are four points above bottom side Nakumatt FC.

In Wednesday’s fixtures, Sofapaka Fc beat Mount Kenya United 3-1 to maintain top spot on the Kenya Premier League standings with 36 points, a point above defending champions Gor Mahia.

Stephen Waruru fired Sofapaka into the lead but the relegation-threatened Mount Kenya equalized through Timonah Wanyonyi as both teams headed into the breather with scores tied at 1-1.

Sofapaka eyeing their first league title in a decade clinched maximum points in the second half courtesy of a brace from Michael Oduor.

Sofapaka holds onto the pole position with 36 points one adrift of defending champions

Gor Mahia moved to second place after seeing off Kericho Zoo 4-0 at Kericho Green Stadium.

In other games, Tusker FC defeated Kariobangi Sharks 3-1 to move to 4th while Ulinzi Stars beat visiting Sony Sugar 2-1.

AFC Leopards and Vihiga United battled to a 2-2 draw at Bukhungu while Bandari’s title hopes suffered a blow after falling 2-1 to Kakamega Homeboys at Mbaraki ground in Mombasa City.
