NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 6 – The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has issued fresh summons to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi to appear on Tuesday at its headquarters to shed light on his claims that police had raided his home on February 9, 2023.
The agency issued the summon on Monday to Matiangi’s lawyer Dunstan Omari indicating that “failure to comply with the requisition constitutes an offense liable to prosecution”.
Senior Superintendent of Police Micheal Sang said Matiangi should appear at the agency’s office at 9:30 am without fail or risk facing arrest.
Sang stated that he is investigating allegations of Publication of False Information contrary to section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act 2018 amongst other offenses in regard to the alleged raid at his home on February 9.
“I have reasons to believe that Matiangi can assist me in my investigations,” he said.
The former powerful Cabinet Secretary jetted back into the country on Saturday after failing to honor a similar summon last week.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has also opened up an investigation into Matiangi’s wealth accumulation since he joined the government 10 years ago, further deepening his woes.
