The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has established six media centres across the country ahead of the 2022 General Election to accord MCK-accredited journalists a conducive environment to report on the polls.
This is in line with the Council’s strategic efforts to strengthen the work of journalists towards a free, fair and credible General Election.
According to a statement by MCK said journalists will have access to technical and logistical support and information on elections-related matters at the centres, which will begin operations from 7th to 10th August 2022.
“They will be provided with workstations and fast and reliable Internet to enable seamless flow of information.” Said MCK.

Further the Council has called upon journalists who have been accredited by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to utilise the facilities to ensure high-quality reporting and adherence to professionalism when relaying election-related information.
The Council noted that it has at the same time deployed 150 Press Freedom Monitors to observe adherence to provision of and access to information for journalists.
They will also monitor cases of violation of journalists’ rights while covering the polls and respond to distress calls.

The Council said it will undertake its media monitoring function during the election period to ensure professional conduct of journalists, media practitioners and media enterprises on elections reporting.
