Men lagging behind on HIV tests: study reveals 8pc gap

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 17 — A new report released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) revealed fewer men had tested for HIV and received their results compared to women.

The report released by KNBS Director General MacDonald Obudho showed only 73 per cent of men aged between 19-49 years have tested for HIV and received results.

The figure is eight percentage points lower compared to women in whose respect the estimate stood at 85 per cent.

“We asked the respondents if they were tested for HIV and received results in the last 12 months, 85 per cent of women and 73 percent men said yes,” he stated.

Obudho was speaking during the launch of the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2022 on Tuesday.

On HIV prevention knowledge, the survey showed that HIV prevention is lowest among respondents aged 15 to 17 years.
