Police in Meru County on Monday interrogated 18 students from Gikumene Girls High School who reportedly sneaked out of the institution on Saturday morning.
County Director of Education Milton Nzioki, in a text message to Citizen Digital, stated that the 18 girls – alongside two others yet to be traced – left the school alongside 321 students who had been sent home for school fees.
“The remaining 2 (one in Form 2 and one in Form 3) are being traced through the school administration, Deputy County Commander and the police,” stated Mr. Nzioki.
Parents of the missing children have, on their part, since blamed the school management over the incident, further expressing fear over security and safety of their children in the institution.
“I had cleared fee for my girl to be in school. Only to receive a shocking message on Saturday night that she was missing from school alongside others,” said one of the parents who spoke to Citizen Digital.
“When I went to the police station, nothing had been reported. The school head needs to be responsible if we have to trust her with our children.”
