Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga has been named the Player of the month of August in the Japanese Division Two League.
The Kenyan international who was part of the Stars squad that drew with Uganda in a friendly match played on Sunday, September 9, has been in fine form with Kashiwa Reysol.
The month of August saw Olunga make history, after scoring his first ever hat-trick in Japan during Reysol’s triumph over Renofa Yamaguchi.
The former Gor Mahia, Tusker and Thika United forward has since taken to social media to express his gratitude after winning the prestigious individual award.
“I am happy to be elected August player of the month. I would like to thank God Almighty for His blessings. Without you it would not be possible,” he posted.
“My teammates, my supporters and everyone who believes in me,I am truly thankful. All I can do is to continue working hard and pray for better tidings in the future,” he added.
Olunga has been instrumental for Kashiwa, who fell 4-3 to Montedio Yamagata on Saturday, September 7, though the former Girona FC forward was not involved In the tie.
