Migori County security officers have launched investigations into a shooting incident involving former Nyatike Member of Parliament (MP) Edick Anyanga that left one person nursing serious gun wounds in the abdomen.

In a phone interview, Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala confirmed the incident happened at Nyakweri shopping center, a few kilometers from the former legislator’s home.

The county commander added that the former legislator allegedly shot at a group of young men he ran into from his campaign trails at night despite there being no spent cartridge on the scene.

However, police recovered from Anyanga a firearm with 12 rounds of ammunition which has since been kept as an exhibit.

The former MP said he was attacked first and he used his firearm to scare the attackers before reporting at Luanda Police station.

He called on the security apparatus to act swiftly and arrest those found to be involved in the shooting.

Nyatike Constituency Member of Parliament Tom Odege condemned the incident and termed it an act of political intolerance calling on the security organs to crack down of violent individuals ahead of the general elections.
