Former Kenya national team captain Morris Ouma on Saturday knocked an unbeaten half a century as he helped Swamibapa beat Sikh Union by nine wickets in a Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association (NPCA) Super Division Twenty20 match.
Ouma’s 54 not out came off 18 deliveries with six boundaries and four sixes. Ouma was Swamibapa’s highest runs scorer.
Batting first Sikh Union were sent back to the stands for a paltry 78 runs in 17.4 overs. Sikh Union batsmen failed to cope with Swamibapa’s stiff bowling and tight fielding and their wickets fell like a pack of cards.
Jasraj Kundi (19 off 24 balls with three boundaries) top scored for Sikh Union. Sukhdeep Singh with a run a ball that included three boundaries and Paramveer Singh with a run a ball 15 that included a boundary and a six were the only Sikh Union’s batsmen who posted double digit figures on the score board.
Gurdeep Singh was the most economical bowler for Swamibapa taking three wickets for one run conceded in four balls of his first over. Indravadan Varsani (3/19), James Ngoche (2/19), Jadavji Bhimji (1/13) and Jignesh Hirani (1/13) were the other wicket takers.
In reply Swamibapa were home and dry, 82 with nine wickets and 14 overs in hand. Swamibapa started their innings on a sour note when their opening batsman, Irfan Karim was dismissed for a golden duck by Guraj Singh (1/11).
Ouma, who replaced Karim at the crease accelerated the run rate sharing a winning second wicket partnership of 81 runs with Naman (21 not out off 17 balls with two boundaries and a six).
Elsewhere Ruaraka (141 for 5 in 20 overs) beat (Obuya Academy (100 all out in 18.4 overs) by 41 runs.
Cutchi Leva (152 for 4 in 19.1 overs) beat Kongonis (151 for 8 in 20 overs) by six wickets.
Nairobi Gymkhana (124 for 7 in 20 overs) beat Ngara ( 98 for 7 in 20 overs) by 26 runs.
