Mother in Kakamega twin saga takes daughter by force

The mother to one of the girls in the identical twins of Kakamega puzzle which was resolved over the weekend reportedly stormed the home where all the three girls were and left with her biological daughter.

Angeline Omina, the biological mother to Melvis Imbaya, who was brought up with one of the twins, sought the intervention of police officers who escorted her to where the girls had been living.

It is claimed that Melvis herself had refused to leave with her biological mother claiming that she would live with the other two girls, Sharon Mathias and Melon Lutenyo, but the officers intervened in time and took control of the situation.

Confirming the incident, Kakamega County Police Commander Bernard Muli revealed that Omina took her daughter to Kangemi, Nairobi, where she resides.

Omina had previously lived with one of the identical twins, Sharon, as her daughter following a mix-up at Kakamega Hospital during their birth 19 years ago.

DNA results released last Saturday by Lancet Kenya showed a 100 per cent confirming that Sharon Mitekwa and Melon Lutenyo are twins.

The teenagers who grew up in separate locations met on facebook after mutual friends commented on their similarity.

A physical meeting later set in motion a controversial story surrounding their birth and alleged separation that is the stuff of movies.

Lancet Kenya Dr. Ahmed Kalebi says the DNA report also shows Mevis Imbaya who was brought up as a blood sister to Melon is not biologically related to the twins.

Her biological parents are Angeline Omina Matias and Wilson Lutah Maruti, the Nairobi based couple that raised Sharon.

The girls aged 19 are both form four candidates

Melon studies at Kongoni secondary school and Sharon at Shikoti Girls high school, both in Kakamega county .

While it is now clear the twins were separated at birth, it is not known whether it was intentional or unintentional.

Focus now shifts to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to establish what exactly happened at the Kakamega county referral hospital in 1999.
