MP calls on Government to subsidize taxes on farm inputs

The government has been challenged to seal all corruption loopholes to ensure public funds are prudently utilized instead of introducing new taxes to the already overburdened Kenyans.

Moiben MP Silas Tiren says farming in the country has been adversely affected by the new taxes, a status that will impact heavily on farmers. Meanwhile, agriculture Cabinet secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has pledged the government’s commitment to improve the fortunes of dairy farmers in the country.

The effects of the just enacted finance bill 2018 continue to felt across all sectors of the economy.

Tiren now wants the government to reconsider taxes on farm inputs.

Tiren says the lucrative economic activity for millions of Kenyans was facing danger.

Meanwhile, dairy farmers in Meru County are set to benefit from 300 sperm banks to be provided by the national government.

Agriculture Cabinet secretary Mwangi Kiujuri says the move will boost breeding of dairy cattle and create employment for hundreds of youths in the region.
