NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 17 — A Murang’a court sentenced a man to 20 years imprisonment for raping a 25-year-old mentally handicapped woman also said to be partially deaf.
The court noted that Samuel Kamau took advantage of the woman’s vulnerability.
The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution said Thursday that the victim’s parents were away for a burial when the incident happened.
“The woman’s parents had gone for a funeral when the accused raped her in a nearby bush where he was caught by the woman’s brother,” the ODPP said.
The prosecution was led by Caroline Muriu.
The sentencing comes just a month after a Narok man was sentenced to serve 20 years in a defilement case.
Lekumo Ntipapa who appeared before Principal Magistrate Judicastor Nthuku at the Loitoktok Law Courts was convicted and sentenced for defiling a 14-year-old girl at Olkaria area in Loitokitok Sub County, Kajiado County, on April 30.
The complainant who testified in court stated that on the material day at around 9:00 am, together with another girl, they went to a nearby forest popularly known as Kwamzungu to collect firewood when the incident occurred.
She said that as they were collecting firewood, her colleague heard some moves in the bushes and alerted her to run for safety.
Both of them ran towards the main road and stopped just to realize it was a man chasing them.
They were however outrun the before the suspect grabbed the victim.
The accused led the complainant back to the bushes and made an inquiry on her clan’s name, threatening to kill her with a sword in case she screams before proceeding to defile her.
