NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 1 – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has sensationally claimed that he will dispatch Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) to protect retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The controversial General in a tweet on Saturday asserted that “we will beat those hooligans to a pulp”.
General Kainerugaba’s tweet followed the invasion of Kenyatta’s land on March 27, 2023, situated along the Eastern bypass.
In 2022 soon after Kenya’s August polls, the General also in a tweet threatened to lead his troops to capture Nairobi prompting his father to personally apologize to President William Ruto in what would have otherwise sparked a serious diplomatic row.
Museveni nevertheless defended his only son as a “very good general”, after promoting him to the rank despite stripping him of his role as leader of Uganda’s land forces
President Museveni has previously tried to rein in his wayward only son by telling him to stay off Twitter when it comes to affairs of state and to stick to subjects like sports.
But a defiant Kainerugaba has continued to post on a variety of issues, previously tweeting: “I am an adult and NO ONE will ban me from anything!”
General Kainerugaba has since declared his plans to run for the presidency in the 2026 elections and succeed his father. He announced in a now-deleted tweet.
Whereas it is still unclear if Museveni will seek re-election in the polls, his controversial son has for long been considered as heir apparent to Uganda’s throne.
