A mysterious dawn fire has reportedly destroyed crucial files at the Busia county finance offices located a walking distance away from the county government’s fire station.
The fire broke out at around 2am on Wednesday, September 25, and interestingly only the finance department was affected.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the bizarre incident, Busia county deputy governor Moses Mulomi indicated the exact cause of the fire was not immediately clear and that investigation has been launched to establish whether it was a case of arson or just an accident and also extent of damage.
“Only the finance office was affected by the fire. We are still waiting for officials from the department to inform us on the severity of the fire and the documents that may have been destroyed,” he said.

The county official further disclosed the finance office housed, among other documents, county government’s payroll system.
He, however, clarified they had backup for all of the files and documents that were at the office and which may have been damaged.
