Nairobi County Health Officials were yesterday attacked in Kayole’s Soweto area while on a food joint raid.
The officials had gone to close down food joints in the area after reports of cholera outbreak.
Residents claim that there have been reported cases of cholera with a number of people treated at a local hospital.
“Closing down these food joints is not the solution. These officials should instead focus on ensuring that this place is clean,” James Mukasa told Ghetto Radio News.
Ghetto Radio caught up with two area residents who were diagnosed with cholera and are currently undergoing treatment.
“I had watery diarrhea and I would vomit. I could barely stand, when I went to the hospital, I was told I have cholera,” said the victim.
Meanwhile residents want the county government to solve the hygiene crisis in the area.
“We have a burst sewage here. Raw sewage has been flowing in areas where mama mbogas are working and children are playing exposing them to the dreaded cholera disease,” said James.
James claims that even water pipes in the area have been contaminated.
