The Senate transport committee has given the Ministry of Transport a 60 day ultimatum to compensate those whose businesses have been affected by the ongoing construction of James Gichuru Junction-Rironi road.
The road is part of the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway which is currently under construction.
Committee Chair Senator Kimani wamatangi says failure to implement the compensation will force the committee to halt the project.
According to the committee 4, 000 properties have been affected by the Ksh 16 billion project yet they have not been compensated as agreed.

Speaking during a tour of the project where the committee met those affected by the construction, Wamatangi said the delay in release of an estimated Ksh 11 billion is unfair to the business people.
Kenya national highway authority is on the spot for allowing commencement of works before persons affected are compensated.
According to the petition presented to the senate by the affected persons, it is now two years since their properties were earmarked for demolition.
