Candidates preparing to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams this year may be assessed in 2021.
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha who Thursday appeared before the Senate Ad hoc committee on COVID-19 says the government is monitoring and weighing options over the resumption of learning in the country’s schools.
He, however, said this will only be actualized if schools re-open by September this year adding that the probability of re-opening schools in September is below 50%.
Prof Magoha pointing out the exams could be deferred to November 2021 if the situation does not allow examiners to administer them by April.

Senators led by the Committee Chairman and Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja advised the ministry to consider writing off the current academic year in light of COVID-19 disruptions.

Meanwhile, Magoha is seeking to have all pornographic sites blocked from being accessed in the country.
Speaking in Nakuru, Magoha said the move would protect children from harmful content.
This even as Health Principal Secretary Dr. Susan Mochache dismissed a report indicating that there have been 3964 teenage girls below the age of 19 who have fallen pregnant from January to June this year.
Dr. Mochache saying the claims do not reflect the reality on the ground as the alleged report is yet to be authenticated.
The reactions come a day after an alleged report that at least 4,000 girls in Machakos County were pregnant this year.
