Mr Nixon Shigoli has been elected Board Chairman of the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) during the Association’s 36th annual general meeting held on March 23, 2023.
Mr Shigoli, who is the CEO of Occidental Insurance Company, takes over from Mr James Oyugi, CEO of Cannon Life Assurance who has led the Association since March 2022, following the exit of the then chairman, Mr Jerim Otieno, from the industry.
Mr Shigoli takes up the mantle as the Association continues with various digitization initiatives. During his tenure, he will focus on the deliverables of the 2021-2025 strategic plan which are geared towards increased stakeholder engagement and mutually beneficial partnerships to meet AKIs goals, increased consumer awareness activities and capacity development for the industry.
Mr Shigoli is a seasoned insurance executive and has held various leadership positions in insurance companies. He has served the Association in various capacities as the Deputy chairman, chairing the General Insurance Council and leading the PR and External Liaison committee. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Egerton University and is finalizing his thesis for award of an MBA degree in Strategic Management and Marketing at Daystar University.
