NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 1 – AFC Leopards deputy coach Tom Juma has warned his younger brother Musa Oundo that he should not expect any brotherly favours at the club and he has to fight for his place just like everyone else.
The 23-year old Oundo received chunks of praise for his performance in midfield during the Mashemeji Derby last weekend and came off the bench after being rested in the midweek duel against Vihiga Bullets.
“He is my brother, but he has to fight for his place just like everyone else. He is my brother at home but on the field, I treat him like all the other players. There are no special favours for him when it comes to work,” Juma told Capital Sport.
Oundo had been on loan at Kibera Black Stars after being signed by Leopards, but had to be recalled as the club was short in numbers due to their current transfer embargo. He has previously played for Mathare United and Chemelil Sugar.
His performance in the midfield showed a robust player who has massively grown and promises to be one of the best in his position.
“I am happy with how he is performing so far, but I know he can do better. He needs to work harder,” Juma further told Capital Sport.
Oundo is expected to play a central role for Leopards this season and after being rested for close to an hour of the Bullets midweek clash, expects to start against league leaders Nzoia Sugar when the two sides clash in Bungoma this weekend.
Assistant coach Juma says they expect a tough encounter.
“It will definitely be a tough match because they (Nzoia) are in good form now. But the most important thing is the recovery of players. We played our eighth match in less than 28 days on Wednesday and that is a tough schedule. If we can recover well and be fresh, I believe we will have a good result,” noted the tactician.
