No plans to cancel World Athletics Intercontinental tour, says AK – KBC

Athletics Kenya has said it has no plans of cancelling the Nairobi leg of the world athletics intercontinental tour slated for September 26th this year.

The federation’s Deputy Chairman Paul Mutwii said that the federation will seek permission from the government to get the nod of hosting the competition.

The Nairobi Athletics Meeting, one round of the world athletics intercontinental tour was set to be held on 2nd May but was postponed to September due to the fears of Covid-19 spread.

Athletics Kenya has said that it has no plans of cancelling the hosting rights but will seek permission from the government.

The tour will feature mostly events that have been removed from the Diamond League prime time since the inaugural 2020 season.

They’re 200 m, 3000 m steeplechase, discus, hammer and triple jump.

Meanwhile, Athletics Kenya officials have confirmed that the planned Maurie Plant inaugural race that is set for Tuesday at Nyayo national stadium will go on as planned.

World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot held a training session at the stadium together with his teammates.

The race will be held in memory of Maurie Plant; Australia’s significant figures in athletics who passed on in January.
