Nokia 1 Plus drops in price on Jumia as part of Black Friday sales

If you’re in the market for an entry-level smartphone from Nokia, a brand that early mobile phone users in the country relate with, then the Nokia 1 Plus is likely to be the first recommendation that pops up.

I say likely because there are still some remnants of budget Android devices from 2017 and 2018 in the market that are likely to undercut it in pricing much as their feature set, including their prospects for receiving future software updates, are nothing to write home about.

If you happen to be doing your shopping this holiday season or are just looking around and keeping your ears open then the latest price cut by HMD Global is one that may excite you.

The Nokia 1 Plus is going for Kshs 7,000 on Jumia this Black Friday.

That is the lowest that the device has ever been priced since it started selling in the country back in April.

3 months ago, HMD Global slashed the device’s price to Kshs 8,300.

Packing a 5.45-inch display and running on the Go edition of Android 9 Pie with the most basic of specifications, the Nokia 1 Plus is easily a forgettable device. Well, save for its standout design which everyone who has used it seems to point to.

“The phone has a polycarbonate shell that is inherently coloured rather than painted (colour runs through so does not show white when nicked or scratched), providing a unique texture for a sophisticated look and feel,” HMD Global says in a statement sent out yesterday.

Besides HMD Global’s reputation for keeping its devices always up to date, Xiaomi’s Redmi Go, which is also discounted at the moment, should be the Nokia 1 Plus’ biggest headache as its peer.

Another device powered by Android Pie Go edition, the new Tecno Pouvoir 3 Air, ups the stakes by doubling the storage space of both the Nokia 1 Plus and the Redmi Go and throwing in a beefy 5,000mAh battery unit to the mix. Good luck beating that.

Step away from Android Go and hardware limitations and another Xiaomi device, the Redmi 7A, which is going for just Kshs 1,000 more, just like the Tecno Pouvoir 3 Air, presents the 1 Plus with its biggest nightmare so far.

The good thing? All these devices are available with the indicated discounts on Jumia. You are really spoilt for choice.
