Gor Mahia departed Nairobi for Algeria on Friday afternoon ahead of their Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup return match against NA Hussein Dey at 5th July 1962 Stadium.

A squad of twenty players plus officials made the trip which will see them go via Qatar to Algiers and land thirty minutes past noon local time on Saturday.

K’Ogalo won the first leg of the encounter 2-0 last Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium to go top of Group D on six points.

The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for the Blood and Gold, who promised war right from Houari Boumediane Airport when the team touches down.

But speaking to Kahawa Tungu sports desk before boarding at the JKIA, defender Philemon Otieno was categorical that nothing can nolonger scare them having played against African Champions Esperance du Tunis in Rades last year.

“Not at all, last season we learned alot in Tunisia when we were playing against Esperence so we have the experience,” said Philemon.

Gor Mahia narrowly lost 1-0 to Esperance in the first round of the Caf Champions League return match in Rades in a game which was marred by intimidation and hooliganism.

Philemon was particularly a victim as he came under a hail of missiles thrown by fans on his was to the dressing room.

But he is upbeat that with the experience they can survive any condition in Algiers and get a result.

“Preparations have been good so far and we’re optimistic that we will get a positive result on Sunday,” he added.

Kahawa Tungu can report that Gor Mahia have been in contact with Kenya’s ambassador to Algeria for any assistance while there.

Gor Mahia will not return to Nairobi after the Sunday’s game but head direct to Egypt where they will camp till 10th March when they will face hosts Zamalek SC in the their final away game in Alexandria.

The team will need at least a single draw from the outing ahead of their final group game against Petro Atletico of Angola at Kasarani Stadium to enhance their chances of making the quarters.
