Supporters of the embattled Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado Sunday held demonstrations in the streets of Uriri, his hometown to protest his detention.

The irate supporters and a few relatives marched from his Rapogi village to Uriri center, approximately 7 kilometers away, in a show of solidarity with the governor who is currently in police custody over the murder of university student Sharon Otieno.

The governor’s supporters demanded to know why the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had frozen the bank accounts of their County boss while he is in police custody saying the move was politically instigated by his detractors.

Obado’s supporters vowed to disrupt the ongoing senatorial campaigns in the region should the governor spend more time in police custody.

The protests come as the Assets Recovery Authority froze bank accounts of Obado’s wife, Hellen, five businessmen and three companies believed to be associated with the governor.

EACC says hundreds of millions of shillings were transferred to bank accounts of Obado’s children in Australia, Hong Kong, and China

EACC is investigating the suspect transfer of huge amounts of money into Obado’s children’s foreign bank accounts as the spotlight turns to the spending of Migori County funds.

Obado who spent the weekend in police cells will Monday be charged with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Obado faces charges of murder of Sharon.

Obado admitted to having a love relationship with Sharon but denied any involvement in her gruesome murder.

Apart from Obado, police are holding his personal assistant Michael Oyamo, former Kanyadoto MCA Lawrence Mula, a clerk at the Migori County government Caspal obiero, Obado’s bodyguard Eliud Omondi and Jack Gombe, a taxi driver as they seek to get to the bottom of the murder of Sharon.

The DCI is also investigating Obado’s wife, Hellen, as a person of interest.

Meanwhile, police have dismissed reports that the embattled Governor who is being detained at Gigiri Police Station attempted to commit suicide.
