Popular Ohangla musician Maureen Achieng, commonly known as Lady Maureen has passed on.
The singer died on Saturday morning in Uriri, Migori County where she had been recuperating after she was discharged from hospital.
The news of her demise was shared by her sister Bella Achieng who said the musician had been treated at the Pastor Machage Memorial Hospital in Migori
Lady Maureen is behind chart-topping hits such as Jogi Jokuoge, Alemo, Gor Kogallo, Raila among others.

ODM leader Raila Odinga on Saturday paid tribute to the late songstress, describing her as an immensely talented and very dynamic musician who always adapted to new trends in a very competitive music industry.

Kisumu county leaders, led by Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and Senator Fred Outa have also sent condolence message to the family of fallen musician.
Nyong’o said Maureen’s death was a great loss to the Ohangla fraternity and the Luo music community coming just weeks after the passing on of two Luo musicians Benard Onyango (Abenny Jachiga) and Erick Omondi Odit ( Omondi Long Lilo).
He said Lady Maureen will be remembered for her musical talent that gave benga music a modern twist warming many hearts.
“The Luo music community will miss her great musical messaging technique championed by careful selection of words in her songs,” he said.
Senator Outa on his part remembered the late Lady Maureen as a songbird who composed numerous political praise songs.
He said Kisumu county is mourning for the second time after the death of another Ohangla maestro Abenny Jachiga who died nearly a month ago.
Lady Maureen will be remembered for her tunes such as Alemo, Jogi Jokuoge, Raila, Gor Kogalo and her final studio recording called Abiro Iri Nyasaye which loosely translates to I am coming to you Lord.
Her demise comes barely a month after the death of another popular Ohangla musician, Abenny Jachiga.
