TECNO has been pushing the Phantom sub-brand to stand on its own. We can now confirm that the new device they will be bringing to the brand will be known as the Phantom V Fold. This is different from the TECNO Phantom Vision V Concept which is a concept device, not expected to launch ever.
When foldables started coming in, people kept wondering why. And Samsung kept at it, making the lineup a major part of their yearly launches. Other companies have come on board too as we’ve seen foldables from Huawei and OPPO. The latest to join the party is TECNO.
In this article we have an exclusive clean first look at the upcoming TECNO Foldable.
Here’s a video of the TECNO Phantom V Fold:
Design:
TECNO is seemingly going with a combination of designs. First of all, the main display when the device is closed, is curved to one side. That’s reminiscent of the Samsung NOTE Edge, if you can remember it. This curve is meant to give the phone the thin sort of look on the side.
At one side you get the volume up and down buttons, together with the power button, which will also serve as the fingerprint scanner.
The back is made of the same material as with the Phantom X2 Pro which we currently have for review. The difference here is that the V Fold is white while the X2 Pro is orange.
50MP Back Camera:
The camera bump at the back is circular, reminding you of some Huawei designs. The main lens is 50MP, and there are two extra lenses and an LED flash.
There’s an ASPH branding at the back which could denote that TECNO is using an Aspherical Lens for the Phantom V Fold.
12GB RAM with 256GB Storage:
While we don’t know the processor powering the device, we can tell from the back of the device that the particular model comes with 12GB RAM with 256GB storage. Of course, with RAM Expansion we can expect TECNO to hype it as either 17/18GB RAM.
In terms of the processor, we could see the same Dimensity 9000 5G chipset. If not, it could be something more powerful, though it would make sense to have the 9000 chip, given TECNO was the first to ship a phone with that processor, meaning they’d have gotten a good number of orders for it.
Internal Screen:
The good thing about a foldable phone is that when you open it, you get a huge screen to work with. We are not sure of the dimensions for this device, but it looks to be almost the size of the Galaxy Fold series from Samsung. If not, then a little bigger.
Everything else we know:
- Bluetooth 5.3 – A few weeks back, a TECNO V Fold was certified for Bluetooth 5.3.
- Android 13 – According to this video, the phone will run Android 13 out of the box.
- Launch Date – the phone is expected to launch at MWC 2023 which is beginning of next month.
