KISUMU, Kenya Mar 20 – Several properties were destroyed in Kisumu on Monday as police battled with Azimio protesters.

The demonstrations were called by Opposition chief Raila Odinga against the high cost of living and the presidential victory he claims was stolen from him during the August 2022 elections which he lost to President William Ruto.

Anti-riot police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators gathered in various parts of the lakeside city of Kisumu as they attempted to march to the State Lodge which was heavily guarded by police.

Angered by the police action, the demonstrators hurled stones at businesses and other establishments leaving a trail of destruction.

Similar chaotic scenes were witnessed in the capital city Nairobi where police used teargas and live ammunition to disperse rowdy youths as some, including two MPs and Senators, were arrested.
